Right buried bipedicled DIEP flap and left bilateral PAP to 1 side

this patient receivedb both reconstructions

Even when a patient has had a breast reconstruction with her own tissue and is unfortunately diagnosed with a second cancer, micro-surgery offers us the possibility of obtaining a natural and symmetrical result.
This patient had 1) reconstruction of the right breast at the same time as the mastectomy preserving the skin and reconstruction with buried DIEP flap (without skin from the abdomen). 2) after the discovery of a tumor in the other breast, another mastectomy was necessary and he again chose the reconstruction with his own tissues, this time from the inner thighs.
PATIENT'S TESTIMONY:
"When I was diagnosed with breast cancer it seemed to me that the world had fallen on me, I didn't know how I would face, manage or live my life as a" normal person "ever again, but then I came to terms with the fact that I needed a mastectomy I felt compelled to be positive and choose the option that was right for me. I could not imagine my life without a breast, for me it would have been wrong, I would have been conscious in my clothes, going on vacation would not have been able to wear swimwear, even having a bath would have resulted in the fact that I don't feel 'normal' to myself every day.

I chose my tissue reconstruction because all the medical people I spoke to told me it was the most natural option for a real breast and for me it was what I wanted to be - "normal"!

I would be lying if I said it was easy because it wasn't, there were days where I could have given up pretty easily but I was determined to get over it and be as positive as possible.
After the DIEP flap it took me longer to get back to my daily activities, while after the PAP flaps at 5/6 weeks that I was able to continue normally I could not sit fully but could remain leaning on the edge of a chair and this did not affect the my daily routine.

As my body has had time to heal, my scars are less noticeable, but still there, my DIEP scar is still visible. My PAP flap scars are healing well and the best part is that no one can see them, they are well tucked into my groin and under my lower cheeks, they are still a little red, but it's only been a few months since my surgery. ..
